Benjamin Franklin Man of Science

More so than perhaps anyone else in history, Ben Franklin was extraordinarily successful in many areas of endeavor.

He was a self-made businessman, politician, diplomat, a founding father of his country, community leader and innovator, writer, newspaper and almanac publisher, philosopher, fund raiser, educator, inventor, musican, linguist, wit and humorist.

But it was as a man of science that Ben first came to the attention of the world.  Ben’s scientific achievements would have tremendous impact on future science and scientists, as well as the history of his country!  Because he was world famous as a scientist, Franklin’s influence in France during the Revolutionary War was one of the most powerful weapons in the new country’s bid for independence.

Come meet Benjamin Franklin and learn about his greatest scientific achievements, as well as his life and other accomplishments.  The program concludes with the reenactment of a scientific experiment Ben actually performed!

Ben Franklin mapped the Gulf Stream, charted the path of a hurricane, and saved lives by studying and writing about lead poisoning and small pox.  He proved that lightning was a form of electricity and founded the first hospital in America, in which today over 5,000 babies are born each year!

Many children become part of the show and help Ben with the program in special ways.
